Attendance
It is the responsibility of the parents to notify the school in writing the reason for their student’s absence within 3 days. This written note from parent or medical doctor must include the date and reason for the absence with a signature on the written note. This excuse should be given to the Homeroom teacher within 3 days of the absence. Excuse notes may be submitted electronically. If a note is NOT brought in or sent electronically within 3 days, the absence it will be coded as UNEXCUSED.

Cobb County's Attendance Policy
3 unexcused absences: Contact is made with the student’s family by the homeroom teacher.
5 unexcused absences: Written notification from the school is sent to the student’s family.
7 unexcused absences: a referral is made to the School Social Worker. (Please note that a school principal can make a referral to the School Social Worker at any time he/she deems appropriate)
10 unexcused absences: Referral to the court of jurisdiction. For students, this is the Juvenile Court of Cobb County. Parents may be charged with educational neglect, thus possibly leading to the issuance of a criminal warrant and prosecution in the Cobb County State Court.
Excused absence: Excused absences are defined by the State Board of Education. As applied in the District, students may be temporarily excused from school if:
*A child is ill or attendance in school would endanger his/ her health or the health of others
*A serious illness or death occurs in the immediate family of the child
*A child is observing a recognized religious holiday of his/her faith
*Mandated by order of a governmental agency
