8th Grade Behavior Management Plan
Mabry Middle School expects all students to strive and obtain the highest scholastic and personal standards. When students are cooperative and respectful, teaching and learning occur. Mabry students are expected to display positive leadership and good organizational skills, use appropriate communication, and take responsibility for their decisions and actions.
The 8th grade teachers have created a list of the characteristics that we’d like our students to be.
We all have bad days, but in the event that a student repeated fails to meet our expected behavior, we have created the Charger Card. Details of our behavior management plan are outlined below.
At the start of each 9-week grading period, students will receive a Charger Card that will be attached in the back of their Mabry agenda.
The characteristics above have been assigned a charge value and abbreviation.
When necessary, this value will be deducted from the current total in that class column and coded appropriately based on the infraction.
Consequences progress based on a tiered point total.
Every 4½ weeks, 8th grade students that are at an acceptable point value in every class will participate in a grade-level reward. These reward times, known as Way-To-Go Wednesday, may range from free time outside to an edible treat. Students must have at least 89 points at the 4½-week mark and at least 83 points at the 9-week mark to participate in Way-To-Go Wednesday.
Students are to have their agenda with them at all times. Loss of agenda or Charger Card will result in an additional five points deducted from every class.
Teachers may use the Charger Card as a guide to determine report card conduct grades.
Some behaviors result in an automatic office referral. Please remember that teachers must adhere to all of the Cobb County Policies outlined in the student handbook.
Please take time to review and discuss your child’s Charger Card often. We are hopeful that this will provide constant communication between school and home.
*While cell phones are a convenient means of communication, Mabry students are not permitted to use cell phones during the school day unless directed by the teacher for educational purposes. Cell phones should be turned off upon entering the building. Students who have their cell phones and/or electronic devices out/on during the school day without permission will have them taken away. Parents will be notified that confiscated devices may be picked up in the front office at the end of the school day.
Each classroom will have a visual display to inform the students when their devices, for educational purposes, may be used. We will be using the familiar Red-Yellow-Green stoplight to display device usage.
Red: Devices are powered off and stored in lockers.
Yellow: Devices may be used with teacher permission.
Green: Devices will be used in class for educational purposes.
The 8th grade teachers have created a list of the characteristics that we’d like our students to be.
- Be on time.
- Be prepared.
- Be on task.
- Be kind.
- Be honest.
- Be responsible.
- Be respectful.
- Be unplugged.*
